TCR New Zealand cancels 2022 season
The TCR New Zealand organisation has announced that it will cancel its 2022 season due to “economic and supply constraints”.
“I am very disappointed to have to announce this,” said Lindsay Dodd, manager of TCR New Zealand.
“I’m equally sorry for Geoff Short and the Speed Works team that we have had to come to this decision. However, we needed to make a responsible and commercially correct decision.”
The three-event 2022 season was scheduled for start in January following its inaugural one-event season in 2021.
“It’s been a difficult lead-up to the coming season with constant obstacles cropping up,” said Dodd.
“Two new cars are caught in Australia and won’t now be here till the first quarter of 2022. At least two international drivers that have expressed interest in running in the series and are unable to get through MIQ.
“There is the economic impact on budgets and a couple of key teams have not been able to receive engines they required as these were used by other teams for the recent competition round at Bathurst instead.”
The 2022 season of the Super Production Championship, which was set to share grid with TCR New Zealand, has also been cancelled.
The organisation has stated that a decision on the future of the championship will be made “in due course” and that work has begun to potentially integrate the class into the North and South Island Endurance Series.
