W2 ProGP switches from Honda to Cupra for the 2022 season

Reigning champion team W2 ProGP has announced it will switch from Honda to Cupra for the 2022 TCR South America season.

The team ran a pair of Hondas last year for Pepe Oriola and Raphael Reis, claiming first and third in the drivers’ championship, as well as the teams’ title.

W2 ProGP has confirmed one driver so far, with Reis signed for one of the Cupra León Competicións.

“We are sure Raphael will be fighting for the title this year,” said Serafin Junior, team manager of W2 ProGP.

“He had a lot of speed in 2021, but he also had a lot to learn of the category, such as standing starts and optimising the first lap with cold tyres.”

Whether reigning champion Oriola will be back is not confirmed, with the team rather stating that the second seat is still open.

“We have negotiations with some drivers for the second car, but the spot is still open,” said Junior.
