Grove Racing principal facing Triple Eight legal action

Grove Racing team principal David Cauchi is facing the prospect of legal action from former employers Triple Eight Racing Engineering.

Cauchi was the engineer that guided Shane van Gisbergen to the Supercars title last season having previously held a similar role with Jamie Whincup, and was involved in eight title winning campaigns during his time with the Triple Eight squad.

Having been named as the new Grove team principal back in October, Cauchi appeared with his new team during testing at Winton late last month before heading to the season opener at Sydney Motorsport Park.

However, Cauchi is now facing legal action from his former team – which believes he should currently be on ‘gardening leave’ after his departure from his previous post.

“Triple Eight Race Engineering is of the view that David Cauchi is in breach of his ongoing contractual obligations to the Team,” a statement from the Holden squad read.

“Triple Eight has instructed its lawyers to take immediate steps to protect the Team’s legitimate business interests.

“We won’t be making any further statements until the matter is determined by the Court.

“Triple Eight’s priority is our on-track performance and we remain fully focused on delivering the best possible results at this weekend’s Sydney SuperNight.”

Grove Racing insists it will currently make ‘no comment’ on the issue.
