BTC Racing set to stick with three car entry as new team manager confirmed

BTC Racing is set to stick with a three-car entry into the 2022 British Touring Car Championship despite being awarded an additional TOCA BTCC Licence late last year.

The Honda squad was one of three teams to be loaned an additional licence by series organisers TOCA back in December, although it has been rumoured for some time that only three cars would run this year.

That move has now been confirmed by the team in a statement announcing the signing of Danny Buxton in the role of team manager, with the former touring car racer overseeing ‘all the BTC Racing motorsport activities, which include three full entries in the BTCC’.

Buxton spent half a season competing with Vic Lee Racing in a Peugeot 307 back in 2003 having previously secured championship honours in the Renault Clio Cup.

He would later go on to found the Scuderia Vittoria team alongside Tom Ferrier before joining McLaren, where he has most recently worked in the role of head of customer racing.

“[Team owner] Steve Dudman and I have kept fairly close for a number of years now and after speaking recently, he laid out the race team’s exciting future plans,” he said.

“I immediately found the projects appealing and we soon came to an agreement. I’m extremely excited to join the team in such an ambitious phase of their young history.

“Steve has been instrumental in me signing. He has an impressive business approach and profile and together with my industry experience, we’ll develop the current race programmes and deliver new customer initiatives within our shared vision. This is just the opportunity I’ve been looking for.”

Josh Cook and Jade Edwards competed full-time for BTC Racing last season, with Senna Proctor joining the pair from the second round of the campaign at Snetterton.

No drivers have yet been confirmed for 2022.
