Shane van Gisbergen say he fooled rivals with radio messages

Shane van Gisbergen completed a clean sweep of the Supercars Championship weekend at Symmons Plains and said that he fooled rival team Dick Johnson Racing into an early pit stop.

“I was screaming over the radio pretending I had no rear [tyre life], made them pit earlier and then I just went. So, sucked in,” said van Gisbergen.

“We’ve got some tough competition from these guys, I don’t mean that in a bad way. Very tough to beat, they’re fast guys.”

The Triple Eight driver has shot into the lead of the drivers’ championship, currently heading DJR driver Anton De Pasquale by 67 points.

“It’s pretty awesome, I can’t thank Red Bull Ampol Racing enough,” said van Gisbergen.

“The car’s been really good all weekend… each race we had to work for it.”

The next Supercars Championship race takes place in Melbourne during the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix on April 7-10.
