Jake Hill secures first BMW win in Donington finale

Jake Hill grabbed his first win of the 2022 season to make it three winners in three races at Donington Park.

Hill started from the reverse grid pole and was never troubled from the moment the lights went out as he controlled the race from the front, edging away from the pack behind to pick up his fourth career win.

Dan Lloyd ran second in the early stages which helped Hill to build an advantage, with the EXCELR8 Hyundai lacking the pace to keep up with the BMW and being forced to defend to keep Ash Sutton at bay.

Sutton got ahead at the Old Hairpin on lap three but couldn’t chase Hill down, with the defending champion having to settle for a podium finish in second instead.

Lloyd produced a fine defensive drive but his hold on third would be wrestled away on the penultimate lap when he ran slightly wide exiting turn one and Josh Cook managed to fight ahead into third spot to grab the final podium spot even though he ran out of hybrid on the final lap.

Lloyd would have to settle for fourth spot ahead of team-mate Tom Ingram, who nipped ahead of Adam Morgan’s BMW late on, with Rory Butcher and Colin Turkington taking seventh and eighth.

Gordon Shedden and Bobby Thompson rounded out the top ten.
