Shane van Gisbergen beats Cam Waters to close Winton pole

Points leader Shan van Gisbergen beat Ford rival Cameron Waters to a close Supercars Championship pole position at Winton Motor Raceway, with just 42 thousands of a second separating the pair.

The Triple Eight Race Engineering driver lapped the circuit in 1:18.264 during the shootout lap.

The margins were even closer for third spot on the grid, with Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Chaz Mostert beating Will Brown by 0.001 seconds.

Grove Racing’s Lee Holdsworth was fifth fastest ahead of DJR driver Anton De Pasquale, with Holdsworth’s team-mate David Reynolds a disappointed seventh after having been at the very top during the first part of the qualifying sessions.

Van Gisbergen’s team-mate Broc Feeney rounded off the top eight.

The first race of the weekend starts at 15:35 local time/07:35 CEST.
