Josh Cook celebrates ‘rewarding’ Thruxton double
Josh Cook admitted it had been ‘extremely rewarding’ feeling to secure a second double win in as many rounds of the BTCC season at Thruxton.
Cook headed into the weekend looking to build on his two wins at Brands Hatch and qualified on pole at the wheel of his BTC Racing-run Honda Civic in a tightly-fought session on Saturday.
In both of the opening races, Cook was able to emerge from an opening lap battle with a fast-starting BMW at the head of the pack and wrapped up two wins that make him the most successful driver ever at the Hampshire circuit – win nine wins.
A solid points score in race three means Cook now heads the standings going to Oulton Park next month, with a handy advantage over Ash Sutton.
“All wins are special and to do a double is very difficult and extremely rewarding,” he said. “To do it two weekends in a row, at Brands Hatch and here, is an incredible feat, and shows how the team has developed the car and how I’m gelling with the package as a whole.
“However, we can’t rest on our laurels and we have to keep working hard ahead of Oulton Park. As we’ve seen, as quickly as things can go our way, they can go against us and we can drop drop down the standings.
“We have to keep scoring points as much as we can and maximise every opportunity that comes our way.”
