Cam Waters and Chaz Mostert share Darwin victories

Cameron Waters and Chaz Mostert claimed one victory each in the last two Supercars Championship races of the weekend at Darwin.

The first race of the day saw a big crash for James Courtney at Turn 5, being collected by several cars when spinning across the track.

The smash eliminated Scott Pye and Thomas Randle as well, bringing out the red flags.

When the race resumed, pole sitter Waters headed the field ahead of Dick Johnson Racing driver Will Davison.

Davison tried his best to get past Waters for the lead towards the end of the race, but was unable to get past the Tickford Racing driver.

Waters won the race ahead of Davison and points leader Shane van Gisbergen, who kept DJR’s Anton De Pasquale behind him.

David Reynolds and Jack Le Brocq rounded off the top six.

The second race saw De Pasquale claiming the lead ahead of team-mate Davison into Turn 1.

Mostert meanwhile opted for a different tyre strategy to the leaders, pitting earlier and changed just two tyres.

The safety car was brought out on lap 26 when Garry Jacobson and Zak Best collided, leaving Best stranded on track.

Davison and van Gisbergen made contact as the race resumed, with both dropping down the order and the stewards handing the Triple Eight driver a 15-second penalty for the incident.

That left Mostert in the lead, albeit under pressure from De Pasquale.

But the Walkinshaw Andretti United driver managed to stay ahead to win the race by less than a second ahead of De Pasquale, with Waters completing the podium.

Davison and Andre Heimgartner rounded off the top five.

Van Gisbergen is still on top of the standings, heading De Pasquale by 214 points.

The next Supercars Championship race will take place on July 8-10 at Townsville.
