José Manuel Sapag secures Toyota seat

José Manuel Sapag has been named as the second driver for Toyota Team Argentina’s assault on the 2023 TCR South America season.

The Argentine racer finished fourth in the standings last season with PMO Motorsport, taking a win at El Pinar at the wheel of a Lynk & Co 03 TCR.

Sapag will now join forces with Bernardo Llaver at the wheel of one of the new Toyota Corollas that debuted towards the end of 2022, with hopes high of a successful season ahead.

“I’m happy to continue in TCR as it is a category that I really like,” he said. “I am looking forward to the events shared with the TCR World Tour, and am very excited about the challenge of teaming up with Toyota and helping to develop the new car.

“I hope we can be quick with the team.”

Team boss Dario Ramonda said he was pleased to welcome Sapag into the team.

“We have a great technical team that already successfully put the Corolla TCR on the track at the end of last season and a solid pair of drivers,” he said. “Berni Llaver has already had appearances in the category and shown his pace, and Manu Sapag has more experience and knowledge of the concept and has scored good results in both South America and Europe.

“We are now getting ready for the premiere in Cordoba in just over 30 days.”
