Broc Feeney wins Melbourne race four as Kostecki takes points lead

Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney claimed victory in the final race of the Albert Park weekend as Brodie Kostecki grabbed the Supercars points lead with third.

Andre Heimgartner finished second, just under a second in arrears of Feeney, while double race winner Kostecki’s podium moves him 32 points clear at the top of the standings.

Earlier in the weekend, Feeney became the youngest Supercars polesitter after topping the fourth qualifying session.

He duly led his Chevrolet Camaro away from the start which was held behind the safety car, with fellow front-row starter Chaz Mostert in close company.

Mostert and Will Brown soon got past Feeney, having elected to start the race on the better Super Soft slicks, a tyre Feeney quickly moved onto at the end of the opening lap.

Brown and Mostert were close together for the lead, with Brown leaping down the inside of the Walkinshaw Andretti United Ford Mustang at turn 11, but dropped down the order after spinning out on the next lap.

That was as good as it got for Mostert, however, who fell rapidly down the field, eventually finishing 14th at the end.

Feeney, having pitted early, cycled back into the lead from Heimgartner and Kostecki and was untroubled for the remainder of the race en route to victory.

Off the podium, Shane van Gisbergen finished fourth, behind Bryce Fullwood on the road, but the latter was penalised 15-seconds for an unsafe release from the pits.

Jack Le Brocq finished fifth, with Shell V Power Racing’s Will Davison the best of the Mustang in sixth.

Macauley Jones was a superb seventh ahead of Penrite Racing’s David Reynolds and CoolDrive’s Todd Hazelwood while Tickford’s Cam Waters completed the top ten.

In the standings, Kostecki leads Mostert by 32 points heading into the next round in Perth at the end of the month.

Van Gisbergen is a furth 54 point back from Mostert, with Heimgartner fourth. Kostecki’s team-mate Will Brown lies fifth in the points, with Feeney seventh after his first win of the season.

The Perth SuperSprint will take place on the weekend of April 28-30.
