Ash Sutton disappointed at missed pole chance

Ash Sutton said he was disappointed in missing out on pole position for the second BTCC meeting in a row after qualifying at Brands Hatch.

The Motorbase driver had shown strong pace throughout the two practice sessions, and was the man to beat for much of Q1 before slotting in behind Jake Hill’s BMW with the second best time.

However, in the top ten showdown, Sutton found himself lapping three-tenths of a second behind team-mate Dan Cammish, with his best time only good enough for fourth place.

That came after qualifying at Donington Park two weeks ago, where Sutton missed out on pole to Dan Rowbottom after losing a lap to track limits.

“The car felt mega in the first part of qualifying but we went out in Q2 with new tyres and the balance disappeared,” he said. “There was just no rear grip and it’s frustrating because the car has felt so good all day and then we just lost all of the balance.

“I’m gutted because that’s twice now that qualifying hasn’t gone to plan, but hopefully we can have a better Sunday than we did at Donington Park.”
