Dan Cammish delighted with ‘amazing’ qualifying showing
Dan Cammish admitted he was delighted to secure his second pole of the BTCC season as the Motorbase-run NAPA Racing UK squad maintained its astonishing qualifying record in 2023.
Cammish produced a fine second run in the session to move onto provisional pole ahead of team-mates Dan Rowbottom and Ash Sutton shortly before an off for rookie Daryl DeLeon saw the action halted.
With five minutes remaining on the clock when the action resumed, Cammish elected to remain in the pits rather than going back out on track and it would prove to be the correct call as his time couldn’t be beaten.
It means six poles this year for Motorbase, with Cammish ultimately heading a 1-2-3 on the times.
“It feels amazing,” he said. “I overdrove on the first set of tyres and tried too hard, but when I’d used the tyre up, I was still fifth on the times. I knew I needed to just calm down and drive the car properly so I went back out and found about seven-tenths of a second.
“That was me doing a good job rather than a bad job, and it was nervous then sitting out the final five minutes but it was the right call. It’s awesome for the team and to have six poles in a row – with different drivers and in different conditions – shows the pace that we have in the car.
“Hopefully we can build on this tomorrow, but we’ll enjoy tonight and then look to get the best result possible for the team.”
