Shane van Gisbergen controls Sydney Motorsport Park finale

Shane van Gisbergen claimed his first win since Perth in the Sydney Motorsport Park finale, gaining on Supercars championship leader Brodie Kostecki who could only manage eighth.

Brad Jones Racing driver Andre Heimgartner made the best start, beating pole sitter van Gisbergen into Turn 1.

But the Triple Eight Race Engineering driver was able to get back past into the lead on lap four.

There was drama for Erebus Motorsport Will Brown at the start, spinning off track following contract with David Reynolds, Anton De Pasquale and Mark Winterbottom.

Points leader Kostecki had a tough fight with Broc Feeney for third, a fight Feeney came out on top from while Kostecki dropped back as the race progressed to finish eighth.

Heimgartner made his stop on lap 19 and rejoined the track in fourth behind Feeney and Dick Johnson Racing driver Anton De Pasquale.

Heimgartner was able to work his way past both rivals and finished second, five seconds behind van Gisbergen.

De Pasquale provided an entertaining last-lap battle for third with Feeney, getting past at Turn 6 to claim the final podium spot.

Bryce Fullwood was fifth ahead of Cameron Waters and Chaz Mostert.

Kostecki heads the standings with a margin of 41 points over Brown, with van Gisbergen third, 54 points adrift.

The next Supercars Championship race takes place at The Bend on August 18-20.
