Ash Sutton moves a point closer with sixth pole

Ash Sutton has moved a point closer to securing a record-equalling fourth BTCC title after grabbing pole position for the sixth time this season ahead of the Brands Hatch finale.

Despite once again running with the least amount of hybrid available, Sutton would prove to be in a class of his own as he romped to pole by two-tenths of a second.

Not only that, Sutton would also set no fewer than three laps that would be quick enough to score pole to drive home his advantage at the front.

Sutton hit the front less than ten minutes into the session and wasn’t headed from that point on as he improved his time to end up clear of the Toyota of Rory Butcher as the Scot produced his best qualifying performance of the campaign, with Tom Ingram in third.

Ingram would push hard to try and overhaul Sutton but would end up having to abandon his final lap when it became clear that the pole time was out of reach.

Dan Rowbottom was fourth fastest ahead of the Cupra of Bobby Thompson, with Dan Cammish putting three of the NAPA Racing Fords in the the top six.

Colin Turkington was the best of the BMW drivers in seventh place, with Jake Hill, Mikey Doble and Adam Morgan rounding out the top ten.
