Aiden Moffat: “To win on the first weekend means so much”

Aiden Moffat said that winning on his debut for Speedworks Motorsport ‘meant so much to him’ as he enjoyed his strongest start to a British Touring Car Championship season at Donington Park last weekend.

Along with Josh Cook, Moffat has switched to the Toyota Corolla squad for 2024 to run under the LKQ Euro Car Parts with SYNETIQ banner, and he made an instant impact as he claimed a memorable reverse grid victory at the Leicestershire track.

Following on from a pair of battling drives in races one and two, the Scotsman lined up on the front row for race three and he duly took his chance to shine as he wrestled the lead from Rob Huff before then producing a defensive masterclass to fend off multiple champions Colin Turkington and Ash Sutton.

“The car has felt great all weekend,” said Moffat. “We started at the back of the grid for the first race but that wasn’t the pace of our car, that was just the new qualifying rules which really penalised us.

“The aim was the podium and I had to be aggressive early on. I was trying to be sensible with hybrid – I knew we were weaker in the second half of the lap so I was trying to deploy there when I could.

“Everyone at Speedworks has done such a great job, it has been a really hard few weeks, lots of long hours ahead of the season. After two top ten finishes earlier today, it would have been great just to fight for a podium, never mind standing on the top step.

“It has been a tough couple of seasons for me, and it’s important this year for me to show my pace and win again, so to do that at the first weekend means so much.”
