Colin Turkington happy to exceed expectations with pole position

Colin Turkington was happy to have exceeded his own expectations after clinching pole position for the opening race of the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch tomorrow.

The Team BMW driver was the driver to beat in a frenetic Quick Six shootout on the Indy circuit as he powered his BMW 330e M Sport to a best time of 47.875, leading what was a West Surrey Racing 1-2 with team-mate Adam Morgan finishing second.

“I’m really pleased to be on pole,” said Turkington. “They are really hard to come by and considering the expectation was to just progress into the Quick Six it feels great.

“We had pole here a couple of years ago in a near identical car however a lot has changed since then. We managed the whole session really well, developed the car and come Q3 it was on fire.

“It’s a good start to the weekend, especially with it being a BMW 1-2, but tomorrow is where it will count.”
