Jake Hill snatches BTCC pole position at Snetterton

Jake Hill produced a superlative last-gasp lap in British Touring Car Championship qualifying at Snetterton to clinch a third career pole position.

In what proved to be a frenetic session around the Norfolk circuit, the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport driver powered his way to the top of the times in the dying seconds to snatch pole away from reigning champion Ash Sutton.

Following a wet start to qualifying, conditions rapidly improved and by the time it came to the Quick Six, slick tyres proved to be the choice for all drivers, with Hill getting the most out of them.

Reigning champion Ash Sutton produced yet another standout performance in his Ford Focus as he powered his way to second place, despite only having one second of hybrid deployment to use.

Adam Morgan carried forward his strong qualifying form from Brands Hatch to snare third in his BMW while Dan Cammish was fourth and Bobby Thompson scored a best-ever qualifying of fifth on his West Surrey Racing debut. Rounding out the top six was Josh Cook.

Earlier in the session, one of the biggest scalps during the opening qualifying segment came in the shape of former champion Tom Ingram, who missed out on progressing by just 0.019s.

With the top 12 progressing, the battle to secure a spot in the ‘Quick Six’ was frenetic it would be the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK duo of Andrew Watson and Rob Huff, as well as Colin Turkington and Dan Rowbottom, that would ultimately miss out. They did however complete the remainder of the top ten.
