Alex Ley and Gabriele Covini claims TCR Europe Cup poles at Spa

BRC Racing Team Hyundai drivers Alex Ley and Gabriele Covini claimed one pole each in the two TCR Europe Cup qualifying sessions at Spa-Francorchamps.

Ley was fastest in the first qualifying session which determines the grid for Race 1, only just beating Monlau Motorsport’s Viktor Andersson (Cupra) who was 0.071 seconds behind.

Jenson Brickley made it three different manufacturers in the top three with his RC2 Racing Team-prepared Honda, two tenths from pole.

Junesung Park was next up in fourth place for Solite Indigo Racing, six tenths from pole, as Felipe Fernández (Honda) and Santiago Concepción (Audi) rounded out the top six.

The second qualifying session was interrupted twice by red flag which saw several drivers missing out on setting a lap time.

The first stoppage came as Nicola Baldan came to a halt due to a technical issue with his Audi.

The second red flag came with three minutes left as Sandro Pelatti stopped with an issue in his Cupra and the session would not resume after.

Covini set a fastest lap time of 2:26.839 and was more than 1.1 seconds faster than Leonel Pernía in second place.

Aikoa Racing team-mates Giacomo Prandelli and Rubén Fernández claimed positions three and four, 2.8 and 3.5 seconds from pole respectively.

Sergio López was fifth for PC2 Racing Team and the final driver to set a lap time due to the red flags.

Viktor Andersson, Sandro Pelatti, Victor Fernández, Junui Park and Baldan were left without competitive lap times.

The first race of the weekend starts at 17:25 CEST today.
