Ash Sutton dominates race two at Oulton Park
Ash Sutton claimed one of the most dominant victories of his British Touring Car Championship career after charging from seventh to first in race two at Oulton Park.
Lining up on the soft tyre, the Alliance Racing driver made a flying start and was up to fifth by the time the field reached Old Hall, before then dispatching fellow soft tyre runner Aron Taylor-Smith at the Island Hairpin.
With just the hard tyre runners of Josh Cook, Tom Ingram and Dan Cammish ahead of him, the four-time champion wasted no time in moving to the front and from there, he checked out to win by more than 19 seconds.
As Sutton pulled clear, Cammish and Ingram diced for the remaining spots on the podium for a number of laps, with the reigning champion finally taking second at Druids just three laps from home.
Behind them, Taylor-Smith had been holding firm in fourth but with a hoard of cars backed up behind him, it became a matter of time before the floodgates opened.
WSR’s Daryl De Leon was the first to squeeze past and he was quickly followed by the Power Maxed Racing Audi of Mikey Doble.
Three-time champion Gordon Shedden also battled his way past his Toyota team-mate to clinch sixth, with Taylor-Smith managing to cross the line in seventh.
Rounding out the top ten was Ricky Collard, Dexter Patterson and Charles Rainford. Alliance Racing’s Sam Osborne will start race three from pole position after the number 11 ball was drawn for the reverse grid.
Race 3 is scheduled to begin at Oulton Park at 17:20.
