Charles Rainford ‘super happy’ with reverse grid win
Charles Rainford was left ‘super happy’ after claiming his second win of the season in the reverse grid encounter at Oulton Park on Sunday.
After opening his account for the campaign at Snetterton last month, the WSR driver arrived at the Cheshire circuit hoping to build on his front-running momentum however, a challenging Saturday meant that Rainford had to play the long game on race day as he battled his way back towards the sharp end.
Running the less favourable hard tyre in race one, the BMW 330i M Sport driver finished in 15th before he then progressed to ninth in race two.
With the reverse grid draw kindly falling his way, the rear-wheel-drive ace started race three from third and on the soft tyre, he wasted no time in making his way to the front of the field. Despite having to contend with two safety car periods, Rainford was wheel-perfect out front and ultimately triumphed in style.
“We said after Saturday that Race Three was ours, and we’ve only gone and won it! Just amazing,” said Rainford. “To get a win at Snetterton and now at Oulton Park too is just brilliant.
“That was probably the fastest race I’ve ever driven. It was qualifying laps from start to end – with two safety-car periods in between – and I’m super, super happy.
“I’m so thankful to my sponsors and the amazing WSR team. We have a break now for a bit, but we’ll be making sure we’re pushing just as hard once we get there.”
