Dan Cammish charges to first win of the season
Dan Cammish claimed his first win of the season in the British Touring Car Championship after producing a flawless drive to hold off Josh Cook and Tom Ingram in a frenetic Oulton Park opener.
Starting from pole position, the Alliance Racing driver made a perfect start to control proceedings out front while Cook and Ingram scrapped for the remaining spots on the podium.
The race began in dramatic fashion with championship leader Ash Sutton attempting to pass Cook for second around the outside of Cascades, which resulted in contact and Sutton having to catch a slide.
Despite keeping all four wheels on the circuit, the four-time champion subsequently tumbled down the order and then spent the rest of the contest scrapping with the Power Maxed Racing Audi’s of Aiden Moffat and Mikey Doble.
Following a brief safety car to clear debris caused by a Lewis Selby off, Cammish remained wheel-perfect at the front of the field and charged to the chequered flag ahead of Cook and Ingram, who finished bumper-to-bumper.
MB Motorsport’s Aron Taylor-Smith – who had won Saturday’s Qualifying Race on the road before being given a time penalty for a restart infraction – enjoyed a trouble-free, and somewhat lonely, run to fourth.
Moffat and Doble ran line astern to complete the top-six while Sutton managed to hold off a charging Tom Chilton on the final lap to finish in seventh.
Completing the top ten was WSR’s Daryl De Leon and Restart Racing’s Chris Smiley.
Along with Selby failing to finish, Plato Racing’s Adam Morgan also failed to take the chequered flag having suffered an apparent engine issue.
Race 2 from Oulton Park is due to begin at 14:55.
