Marco Butti inherits race one victory after Ruben Volt penalty
Monlau Motorsport’s Marco Butti inherited victory in the opening TCR Europe Series race of the weekend at the Hungaroring, following a post-race penalty for on-the-road winner Ruben Volt.
Volt had crossed the line first after getting a better start off the line than polesitter Butti, but was handed a 30-second converted drivethrough penalty for having team members work on his Honda Civic Type-R car after the five-minute board was shown.
The decision means that Butti claimed his first victory of the season, while Tiago Pernía was promoted to second and Viktor Andersson to third.
A number of other penalties also contributed to a heavily revised result, which remains provisional due to pending investigations.
Santiago Concepción was handed a 10-second penalty for his involvement in a collision with Adam Shepherd, while Victor Chan was also penalised 10-seconds for contact with Gabriele Covini. The latter was himself penalised 30-seconds for speeding under safety car conditions.
The key beneficiary of the multiple penalties was points leader Nicolas Taylor who, after initially finishing 11th on the road, ended up with points in eighth.
Felipe Fernández and Junui Park rounded out the revised top 10.
