Holden to stop manufacturing in Australia by 2017

Holden has confirmed that it will stop manufacturing of cars and engines in Australia by 2017.
“This is an incredibly difficult day for everybody at Holden, given our long and proud history of building cars in Australia,” said Holden general manager Mike Devereux.

The decision means that close to 3000 jobs will be lost at the manufacturing plants around Australia.
“But make no mistake, we have looked at every possible option to build our next generation cars here in this country to replace our existing models,” said Devereux.

The impact of the manufacturing closure on Holden’s commitment to V8 Supercars is as of yet unknown. The Commodore model will most likely be replaced by another model from GM.
