Volvo S60 V8 Supercar unveiled in Sydney

The Volvo Polestar Racing team have unveiled their first V8 Supercar, which will contest the 2014 V8 Supercars Championship season, at a special event at Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The team’s Valvoline-liveried S60 car made its way across Sydney Harbour Bridge and into the city’s central business district, to an official presentation overlooking the Opera House.

The team’s drivers for the 2014 season have already been confirmed as 20-year-old New Zealander Scott McLaughlin, who drove for the team last season in its previous guise as Fujitsu Racing GRM, and 34-year-old former Scandinavian and World Touring Car driver Robert Dahlgren, from Sweden.

“This is a significant day,” said Christian Dahl, Polestar Racing director. “Polestar has been Volvo Car Group’s global performance and motorsport partner since 1996, and has campaigned Volvos in the World Touring Car Championship, the European Touring Car Championship and, currently, the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship. To that end, we’re looking forward to the challenge of the V8 Supercars Championship.”

Team principal Garry Rogers added: “For all the GRM staff it is incredibly satisfying to see the next step of all the hard work and energy they have put into designing and building the Volvo S60 V8 Supercar over the last 12 months.

“During this process, this same group of workers were also responsible for the preparation and running of our 2013 V8 Supercars Championship cars, so it makes me extremely proud to be surrounded by such a never-say-die group. We cannot wait to get on with the racing.”

With the first round of the Championship at Adelaide just a few weeks away, the team will be testing this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park ahead of the Swedish brand’s return to Australian motorsport.
