Scott McLaughlin to get new Volvo S60 V8 Supercar

Scott McLaughlin is going to drive a newly built Volvo S60 Polestar V8 Supercar in the coming race at Barbagallo.
“We were open-minded about when it would debut but the shakedown went well so we’ve decided to run it at Barbagallo,” said team owner Garry Rogers to speedcafe.com.

The team completed a shakedown of the car last week at Winton Motor Raceway, marking the third ever built Volvo V8 Supercar.

“There’s not a lot on it that’s different because of how restrictive the rules are but there’s a little bit, mainly for driver comfort. We did some work on our package over Christmas and made some gains there, so this is just an extension of what we’ve currently got. Drivers have a thing about new cars anyway. They are all the same. If it’s new, it’s better,” said Rogers.

McLaughlin drove the car for 20 laps, as the championship regulations states, during the shakedown and was pleased with the run.

“It’s just like when anyone down the street gets a new car – a new car is just better, everything about it is nicer. It’s more refined, there’s more technology, and it’s just been updated and developed. It may not necessarily make us go faster, but it will definitely make us better,” said McLaughlin to v8supercars.com.au.

The Kiwi has had a tough start to the season with technical issues and mistakes, currently positioned 13th in the championship with seventh as best result.
