Aron Smith and Josh Cook not bothered about “racing incident”

Aron Smith and Josh Cook have both shrugged off their coming together in the final race at Donington Park, with both calling it a “typical touring car incident”.

The pair were battling for the lead in the second half of the third race, with Cook keeping Smith behind for a number of laps with a fantastic display of defensive driving.

Smith then got a run on the Power Maxed Racing Chevrolet Cruze and found himself alongside going in to Redgate. After a couple of bumps the two found themselves diving across the grass through the Craner Curves and coming back on the track directly in front of the chasing pack, somehow missing everyone else.

“It was just a racing incident,” Smith told TouringCarTimes. “I think he just got a bit overzealous with the defending and tried to nip back in behind me and just clipped me. It wasn’t intentional, I had a good laugh with him about it, I still had a good race and it made me laugh – it scared me a little – but once I had it back up I had a good laugh.”

Although Cook put the blame in the other corner, he also agreed that it was nothing worth holding a grudge over and is more concerned about keeping up his pace going in to Thruxton.

“He tried to cut my nose off going in to the Craners so that he had the inside line and he just turned himself round the front of my car and sent me off as well,” said Cook to TouringCarTimes. “I’m not going to hold a grudge, I’m not bothered, that’s touring car racing that’s why I’m here. I bet it was great to watch, it was great to be involved in.”
