Changes made to option tyre use ahead of new season

The British Touring Car Championship has announced an additional regulation change ahead of the forthcoming 2024 season-opener at Donington Park in relation to the use of tyre choice.

Goodyear’s option tyres will again be available at all rounds – except Thruxton where only the hard compound will be in operation – to promote a wider variety of race strategies.

Following a successful re-introduction of the hard, medium and soft compounds last year, series organisers TOCA have now confirmed that the top ten finishing order in race one at each event will be forced to use the hardest available tyre compound in their next race.

The introduction of this rule is to make achieving successive victories on a weekend even harder to achieve; something reigning champion Ash Sutton achieved on four occasions in 2023.

This change is the latest in a number of exciting alterations for the new season which includes the doubling of hybrid boost and a new qualifying format.
