Ronan Pearson leads the way at Croft in second pre-season test

Ronan Pearson set the pace at Croft Circuit in the second official pre-season test for the British Touring Car Championship.

Following on from a packed day of track action at Brands Hatch last week, 19 of the 20 currently confirmed drivers hit the track in North Yorkshire – with Team HARD’s Daryl Deleon once again being the only omission.

The morning session would see drivers get the best of the track conditions with the quickest times being laid down in the run up to the lunch break.

EXCELR8 Motorsport driver Pearson emerged as the one to beat in his Hyundai with his time of 1:22.243s narrowly holding sway over the West Surrey Racing duo of Jake Hill and Colin Turkington.

The NAPA Racing UK trio of Dan Cammish, reigning champion Ash Sutton and Dan Rowbottom completed the top six in their Ford Focus’.

Sutton and Rowbottom would go on to set the benchmark in the wet afternoon conditions, while Andrew Watson also showed promise in his Speedworks Toyota Corolla.

The trickier conditions in the second session caught out a number of the drivers too with Hill striking a barrier on a quick lap through Sunny In/Sunny Out, while Josh Cook also suffered an off-track excursion.

Completing the top ten on the Combined Classification for the day was Tom Chilton, Rob Huff and the aforementioned Cook and Watson.

The BTCC now heads to Donington Park for its official Season Launch next week on April 16th.
