Jake Hill heads Brands Hatch test

Jake Hill topped the times in the first official test ahead of the 2024 British Touring Car Championship season.

The test at Brands Hatch saw 19 of the 20 drivers currently confirmed on the grid take to the track for a day of running on the Indy circuit, with Team HARD’s Daryl DeLeon the only name missing.

Former team-mate Bobby Thompson would be present however with WSR, although his BMW 330e M Sport would run without a transponder throughout the day and therefore didn’t feature on the timing screens.

The morning session would be held in wet but drying conditions, with the quickest times coming just before lunch when the circuit was at its best.

Adam Morgan would power his Team BMW entry to the top of the times ahead of the first of the NAPA Racing Fords in the hands of Dan Cammish, with the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK Corolla of Andrew Watson in third.

The afternoon however would provide a better indication of the true pace of the field, with Hill’s Laser Tools Racing BMW ultimately edging top spot from series returnee Rob Huff, who would end up just 0.065s in his Corolla.

Morgan would end up third, with the LKQ Euro Parts Toyota of Josh Cook taking fourth.

Aron Taylor-Smith’s Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall and defending champion Ash Sutton rounded out the top six. Top Hyundai driver was Tom Ingram, who took ninth in his Team Bristol Street Motors i30 N.

Series newcomers Restart Racing enjoyed a busy day as Chris Smiley and Scott Sumpton put plenty of laps on the Cupra Leons acquired over the winter, with the pair ending up 17th and 19th quickest.
