Chaz Mostert apologises for costly mistake at Winton

Chaz Mostert looked set for a second victory of the weekend in the final V8 Supercars race at Winton Motor Raceway when the Ford driver made a mistake and spun off track, losing three laps on the leaders.

”Today didn’t quite go the way I wanted it to and I can only apologise to the team for spinning off,” said Mostert.

The Prodrive Racing Australia driver started from pole, his third of the weekend, and held the lead of the race when he made the mistake.

”We started the day perfectly with pole again and our strategy was working out as planned. I was leading and just dropped a tyre off the road and the car spun. It dug in and I couldn’t get back out without assistance so our chance was blown,” said Mostert.

Team mate Mark Winterbottom took over the lead of the race to win and the new championship leader is confident that Mostert will bounce back.

“For whatever reason he’s driving around that car a little bit nicer than what I feel like I can at the moment so he’ll be disappointed for sure, but he’s got serious pace. We work well together so he’ll ask me things and I’m picking his brain. It’s one of those things, you’re pushing hard and he’s driving the wheels off it. He’ll bounce back,” said Winterbottom to v8supercars.com.au.
