Markus Östreich confirmed at Campos Racing for Austria

Markus Östreich has been confirmed at the wheel of the second Campos Racing Opel Astra OPC.

The German, who has a strong albeit distant past in touring cars as a works BMW driver back in the ’80s, will partner recent podium-scorer Fernando Monje in Salzburgring. Östreich had a brief taste of the TCR version of the Opel Astra OPC he won the Nürburgring 24 Hours in, and realized the huge differences between the two machines.

“It was my first time in a TCR car and this Astra is very different from the one we drove in the 24 Hours that is much closer to the production model,” said the German, who has a past in the FIA European Truck Championship. “This is a proper racing car and I had a good feeling. It’s fun to drive and has good performance.

The team is working flat out to improve it and I hope I can help them, although I still need to get acquainted with some parameters like the tyres that are crucial to work on the car’s set-up.”

Free Practice 1 is scheduled for tomorrow at 10.00 local time.
