Colin Turkington heads Team BMR 1-2 in second Brands practice

Colin Turkington led a Team BMR one-two in second practice at Brands Hatch just ahead of team-mate Jason Plato, with Honda Yuasa Racing’s championship leader Gordon Shedden just 0.001 behind the second Volkswagen CC in third.

Reigning champion Turkington held top spot for the majority of the 40-minute session, setting an early benchmark of 1.31.461 and lowering it to a 1.31.302 with 15 minutes to go.

Plato jumped up into second inside the final ten minutes, 0.167 behind his lighter stable-mate, before Shedden came within a whisker of deposing him in the Honda Civic Type-R.

Behind the three title contenders, Andy Priaulx was fourth for West Surrey Racing ahead of Triple Eight Racing’s Jack Goff, with Goff’s team-mate Andrew Jordan in sixth.

Tom Ingram was seventh for Speedworks Motorsport ahead of Motorbase Performance’s Mat Jackson and Honda Yuasa Racing’s Matt Neal, with Alain Menu a solid 10th for Team BMR after setting his first laps of the weekend.

AmD Tuning’s Jake Hill also got his first serious running in after his accident in first practice, setting the 24th fastest time in the Audi S3.

At the tail of the field, the problems continued for Welch Motorsport’s Dan Welch, who again failed to set a laptime in his Proton Gen-2.
