James Moffat keen to make it two Volvos at the front next season

Current Nissan Motorsport driver James Moffat will join Volvo Polestar Racing for the 2016 V8 Supercars where he is keen to move the second car to the top.

“Hopefully it’s a situation with the team where they can have two cars which are a bit more competitive regularly,” said Moffat to v8supercars.com.au.

Moffat replaces David Wall who has struggled to make it from the lower part of the field, currently placed 24th in the championship.

“No disrespect to the other guys (Dahlgren and Wall) but the team probably hasn’t been in that situation in the last two years where they have had that,” said Moffat.

Moffat is good friends with soon-to-be team-mate Scott McLaughlin, and the 31-year-old is hoping to challenge him as the top performing driver in the team on occasions next year.

“There will be occasions where he will be quicker than me I am sure and occasions where I am hopefully quicker than him, but as long as we have got both cars up the front that is when it will be a good thing for the team and that’s what I am going there to try and achieve,” said Moffat.

Being close friends with McLaughlin is not something Moffat believes will be a problem.

“I am looking forward to working with Scotty. We already have a reasonable relationship as it is and that makes it easier. We don’t have to worry about getting to know each other because we already know that. We already have a good relationship away from racing so we don’t have to worry about starting anything new. We can just roll into next year and get on with it,” said Moffat.
