Holden and Nissan not affected by Volvo exit

Holden and Nissan are yet to commit to V8 Supercars beyond 2016 but both manufacturers have stated that they are not affected by the exit of Volvo in their decision process.

“From my perspective it doesn’t make any difference, but having said that, the word will filter through into the Nissan motorsport environment in Japan and they will probably ask me some more questions now about why I think Volvo made their decision and what’s the basis of their decision,” said Nissan Australia MD Richard Emery to motoring.com.au.

The official factory Holden outfit, Holden Racing Team, has indicated that their decision is two to four months away.

“We were a bit surprised like most people (by Volvo’s withdrawal), but our involvement in the sport is more about the sport itself as opposed to all the different manufacturers that may or may not be in there,” said Sean Poppitt, Holden director of communications.

“Our destiny is certainly completely in our own hands. But I couldn’t give you a line in the sand timeframe. It could be as soon as two months or it might stretch out to four months.”
