Garth Tander signs for Garry Rogers Motorsport

Garth Tander has signed for Garry Rogers Motorsport, replacing Scott McLaughlin who will move to DJR Team Penske for 2017.

“There is a bit of romanticism about it all, but in reality if you sit down and look at results over the last couple of years and the stability of the organisation then it’s a great opportunity from a driving point of view as well,” said Tander to supercars.com.

Tander made his V8 Supercars debut for GRM in 1998 at the age of 21 and has since then claimed one title and three Bathurst 1000 victories. The 39-year-old has driven for Holden Racing Team since 2005 and finished ninth overall this season with one victory.

“Garth’s business acumen is important; he is very smart as well as being a great driver so I think he will be a person to help Barry (Rogers) not only maintain but also grow the team,” said team owner Garry Rogers.

“I have no doubt that Garth will be a serious contender on track. As a driver he has a few good years left in him in my opinion and whether that’s two or ten I don’t know. There will be stage when Garth decides to step back from full time driving and then we would look at maybe endurance races and helping us with our young drivers.”

The team is yet to confirm which cars they will run next year as they currently are in a legal dispute with Volvo Cars about getting permission to continue with their current S60 model.
