Norbert Michelisz set to make TCR International Series debut along with the DTM

Norbert Michelisz is set to make his TCR International Series debut next month at a second home outing of the year at the Hungaroring, as the series moves its planned race at the circuit earlier to take place along with the DTM on June 17th-18th.

The TCR race was originally scheduled for July 1st-2nd, but the TCR organisers have confirmed the event has been moved forward by two weeks, and will now join the DTM package for the first time, one week after the TCR International Series race at the Salzburgring in neighbouring Austria.

Along with the date change, Norbert Michelisz could also make his TCR International Series debut at the race, subject to finalising plans with his team M1RA to run a third Honda Civic TCR alongside Roberto Colciago and Attila Tassi.

Michelisz already has experience of the car, having raced with the Boutsen Ginion Honda team in the TCR Benelux series on three occasions last year, but this would be his first time both with his own team and in the TCR International Series.

“We’re working on it, it’s not finalised yet, but it’s looking good,” said Michelisz to TouringCarTimes. “It’ll be a great opportunity to race in front of my home fans, and also with my team.”

Other WTCC drivers at the race will include Michelisz’s championship rival Rob Huff, who will be racing with Team WRT in a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR. Huff’s WRT team-mate Jean-Karl Vernay currently leads the TCR drivers’ standings, while the Frenchman’s closest rival is M1RA’s Roberto Colciago.
