Another Independent win for Jones
Adam Jones competing in his 2nd full season of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship claimed his 3rd win in the Independent Drivers Championship and his third 2nd place overall in the final race of the day at a sun soaked Oulton Park in Cheshire in front of a record crowd of over 35,000 race fans.
Driving the Team Aircool petrol-powered Seat Leon sponsored by local firms Bodywork (Solihull) and Wheelmania, Adam started in 4th place on the grid and had a race long battle with Mat Jackson and Andrew Jordan.
Adam passed Jordan on the penultimate lap and held his position to the chequered flag from a hard charging Jackson.
This is one of the best race weekends to date for the Solihull based team, with an 8th and a 6th place in races one and two respectively. It now puts Adam into 9th position, just behind SEAT Sport driver Darren Turner in the overall Drivers Championship and into equal 2nd position in the Independents Drivers Championship standings with BMW driver Mat Jackson.
With only 3 rounds and 9 races to go in the season the championship will almost certainly go to the final round.
Adam said after appearing on the podium with Race winner Gordon Shedden and third place man Jordan: ”I’m delighted to take my third win in the Independents championship.
“I could not have achieved this without the support of my family, the team and our sponsors so I hope they can share my elation at this fantastic result.
“We’re clearly on a high today but we’ll have our feet firmly on the ground at Knockhill in three weeks time when we’ll all be looking to consolidate our position in the championship.”
The next round of the BTCC will be held at Knockhill, Scotland on Sunday 17th August with further rounds at Silverstone and Brands Hatch.
