Plato wants rivals help to beat Turkington

Jason Plato calls on the help of rivals to beat Colin Turkington. The Chevrolet man says that the front wheel driven drivers need to unite to beat the rear wheel driven BMW of Turkington.
“If he starts inside the top four then we’ve all seen it – with rear-wheel-drive he can outgun us all by the time we get into the first corner and then it’s very difficult to live with him over a race distance,” said Plato to BTCC.net.

Plato wants a combined effort from his team mate and the works Vauxhalls drivers against Turkington.

“In order for a title bid from me it’s going to require works Vauxhalls and myself and my team-mate to get amongst the BMWs.

We need to get in front of them in qualifying and then Colin can’t get the lead and disappear. He’s going to be third fourth and fifth and finishing and I can start taking points out of him,” said Plato to BTCC.net.

While Turkington has got a 25 point lead over his closest rival, Matt Neal, Plato feels that the remaining tracks is going to suit him and the other front wheel driven cars better.

“The way I see remainder of year is that Snetterton, Knockhill, Silverstone and Brands Hatch GP should suit the front-wheel-drive cars more than the BMWs.

I say ‘should’ because Team RAC and Colin have got that car going better than it ever has done. And Colin is driving at the very top of his game. He is fierce competition. But on paper but those circuits should play into our hands,” said Plato.

Plato is currently 36 points behind Turkington, a lead that the Chevrolet man believes quickly can be destroyed.

“His lead can be eroded very quickly. I believe I have a chance to win this year which when you think where we were four days before the opening round at Brands Hatch back in April – we weren’t even going to be on the grid! But now we’ve got ourselves into this position we’ve got to use everything and dig really deep because the BMW is in a commanding position.”
