Nash loses first BTCC victory

Hours after sealing his first ever BTCC win, touring car rookie James Nash has been excluded from the results of race three at Snetterton. Officials deemed that the 23-year-old was responsible for spinning Rob Collard out of the race lead.

Colin Turkington now inherits victory in race three, with Fabrizio Giovanardi moving up to second and Matt Neal stepping onto the podium in third place.

Nash was involved in an incident which saw Collard’s BMW spin off the track when exiting the Esses in the middle of the race, resulting in a large accident between the Airwaves car and the BMW of Stephen Jelley.

As a result of the exclusion, Turkington extends his championship lead over Giovanardi to 17 points, with the Snetterton win being his sixth victory of the season.

Nash becomes the second driver to lose their first ever BTCC victory this season, following Jonathan Adam’s time penalty at Brands Hatch in April, which the Airwaves BMW driver penalised for a tap on Jason Plato.
