BTCC issues 2011 calendar

The BTCC has issued it’s provisional calendar for the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, with ten events at the same set of tracks as this season, starting in April at Brands Hatch and ending in October at Silverstone.

In 2011, Brands Hatch will host the first round of the season, but the final round will now be held at the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire.

Donington Park moves forward to the being the second round, whilst the Rockingham Speedway meeting is put back to the latter half of the season.

The mid-season break is between Croft and Snetterton again (between rounds 15 and 16), where there are no events for seven weeks. There are also large breaks between Thruxton and Oulton Park (five weeks), and Snetterton and Knockhill (four weeks) in the 2011 calendar.

Series Director Alan Gow said:
“Thanks to all our circuits and the British Automobile Racing Club for enabling us to be so ahead of the game in informing our competitors, partners, the media and public of next year’s BTCC calendar. By doing so, we also hope other high-profile motor sporting events can plan around these dates and hopefully avoid some of the ridiculous clashes that in recent years have proven to be highly frustrating for both fans and organising clubs, whose resources have been stretched to breaking point.”

The BTCC calendar features only two clashes with events in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, whose calendar was officially revealed earlier today. The clashes are with the two Asian rounds in Korea and China. The broadcast times of those races are unlikely to clash with the live BTCC broadcast in the UK.

There are just four clashes with the provisional calendar issued for the FIA World Touring Car Championship which was also issued earlier today. The clashes are with the WTCC events scheduled at Buenos Aires, Marrakech, Brno & Valencia.
