Jason Plato: “Perfect end to an amazing season”

Jason Plato claimed his second British Touring Car Championship title with two victories during the season finale at Brands Hatch.
“It’s the perfect end to an amazing season,” said Plato.

“It took us a while to get going but by the end of the season we had a car that was unbeatable, thanks in no small part to the hard work and dedication of my team. We knew we could do it, and we did!”

With the two victories today, Plato equalled the all-time BTCC victory record of Andy Rouse.

“Sixty wins sounds nice but not as nice as 61!” said Plato to btcc.net.

Plato made the most of the Chevrolet Cruze of RML in the closing stages of the season, a car Plato says is one of the best race cars he has ever driven.

“When I first started in the BTCC in 1997 with the Renault team I knew we had a fantastic car and it duly won the championship that year. Mid-way through this season when we unlocked all the secrets of the Chevrolet Cruze I got that same feeling again. It has been a phenomenal car to race but, like I say, that’s very much down to the people at Chevrolet and RML,” said Plato.

With the title, Plato says he might be a bit easier to live with for the rest of the paddock.

“I’ve been runner-up three times in the last four years so to finally get that second crown probably means I won’t be such a pain in the backside to live with now!” said Plato.
