Dave Newsham expects to be quick in Donington races

After topping the timesheets in yesterday’s free practice two session Dave Newsham was a little disappointed with his qualifying position of seventh for today’s first race at Donington Park, but expects to be quick.

There was light rainfall ten minutes into the qualifying session, which made it difficult for drivers to improve on their times. Dave Newsham was one of the many drivers who were caught out by the change in the weather.

“We were about three and half tenths slower than we were in practice. It’s purely because we missed the window of the dry track. We took too long to bring the tyres up to temperature. It started raining just as I was starting my fast lap. So that kind of wrecked it for us really. It eased a little bit in the end and we managed to get a better time that got us up to seventh. We were mid grid at one point and that was looking good, so it’s a bit disappointing really.”

Nevertheless the Team ES Racing driver, who took his first podium of the season at Brands Hatch, told TouringCarTimes that he expects to do well in today’s races: “I’m really looking forward to it. We’ve got race pace. What we did in practice was basically our race setup on old tyres. So I think we’re going to be quick in the races, we’ve just got to try to keep out of trouble. I’m going to be going for a podium if I can.”
