James Kaye tests S2000 Honda Civic at Snetterton

James Kaye has tested the 2011 British Touring Car Championship winning Honda Civic at Snetterton ahead of a possible mid-season switch to the ex-Team Dynamics car with the AmD Tuning team.

The Super 2000 specification car, which was sold to Tony Gilham Racing for the 2012 season before being sold back to Team Dynamics this year as Gilham switched to three Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC)-specification cars looks set to change hands again and will be run by Shaun Hollamby’s AmD Tuning team for the last half of the season.

James Kaye started the year as a firm favourite to lift the new-for-2013 Jack Sears Trophy for Super 2000 cars after strong showings in the first two meetings at Brands Hatch and Donington Park, but now after missing one round and after a number of issues, race incidents and mechanical, the 49-year-old BTCC veteran is now lagging behind in the Trophy’s standings with just two race wins whilst JWT Performance’s Lea Wood and Motorbase Performance’s Liam Griffin are in a strong position on five and four wins each respectively.

With the ageing Golf losing more and more ground against the ex-Triple Eight Vauxhall Vectra of Wood and the ex-Arena Motorsport Ford Focus ST of Griffin, a switch to the Honda Civic could turn around Kaye’s challenge and put him back in contention for the Jack Sears Trophy with 15 cups left to be won.

Also present at the test were Honda Racing Team (Team Dynamics) themselves with the NGTC-spec Honda Civics and IP Tech Race Engineering with their all-new NGTC Chevrolet Cruze for a shakedown test.
