Proud dad Mike Jordan “over the moon” for son Andrew
Eurotech Racing boss Mike Jordan has hailed son Andrew’s “amazing achievement” in winning a maiden BTCC title, as he reflected on the pair’s journey from junior rallycross to the pinnacle of British motorsport.
Jordan Snr said it was a source of great pride to add a second British title to the household, following on from his own success in the British GT championship.
And he also spoke fondly of the pair’s close relationship, which has echoes of the Steve and Matt Neal dynamic which has led to several titles in another Honda stable.
Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Jordan said: “I am absolutely over the moon. We came here very confident, and I did think he could do it. It was going to take something going horribly wrong to take it away from us.
“Race two it looked like that might happen. We sat in the truck after that and Andrew was very much like ‘game on – we’re going to go and win this in style’.
“To have taken Andrew from 14 years old and doing junior rallycross to British Touring Car champion in 10 years is just an amazing achievement.
“It doesn’t all come down to money – it is down to attitude and application. We have all worked very hard, and Andrew’s raised his game massively. He has picked his pace and consistency up.”
One of the images of the season was the embrace between father and son at the end of the third race at Brands Hatch – and another trophy has now added to the Jordan family mantelpiece.
Jordan said: “We spend a lot of time together, and we are very much a racing family. I am still racing, and when I am he comes along and helps me. He gives me tips, and I give him tips. We are incredibly close.
“I’ve won the British GT championship and a British title, and now Andrew’s got this, which I never got to. To have those both in the same family is just amazing.”
