Rickard Rydell to miss Macau Scirocco Masters race

Rickard Rydell will miss this weekend’s Volkswagen Scirocco R China Masters Challenge race at the 60th Macau Grand Prix due to illness.

The Swedish driver, who drove for Nika Racing just under two weeks’ ago at Shanghai in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, was scheduled to take part in the special event which is being held with a number of drivers who have had significant achievements at the Guia circuit, with Rydell’s record being the victory in the Formula 3 race in 1992.

Posting on his Twitter account, the former Scandinavian and British Touring Car champion said: “(I) will not take part in the Masters race at Macau this week! Still not well from last weekend in Shanghai, probably salmonella bacteria.”

Other drivers scheduled to take part include Alain Menu, David Brabham, Duncan Huisman, Emanuele Pirro, Jörg Muller, Julian Bailey, Martin Donnelly, Mike Conway, Nobuhide Tachi, Nicola Larini, Stefan Johannsson, Steve Soper and Tim Harvey.
