Andrew Jordan happy with testing progress
2013 champion Andrew Jordan is believed by many to be the one to beat after pre-season testing in the Eurotech Racing Honda Civic. The 24-year-old has been consistently been at the front of the time sheets, and will be competing in both the BTCC and the new FIA World Rallycross Championship this year.
Jordan, who continues with the Honda Civic with which he has raced for the past two seasons, while rivals and the car’s builders Team Dynamics will switch to a tourer model with a different specification engine this year, has been consistently quick according to paddock talk.
“It’s been a good day, we’re happy with what we worked through,” said Jordan to TouringCarTimes after the test at Brands Hatch.
Heading into a season where Jordan will be one of seven past champions on the grid, following the return of Fabrizio Giovanardi and Alain Menu to the Championship, the young driver isn’t fazed by the added pressure of the new competition and the challenge of having to defend his drivers’ title.
“It’s an exciting feeling, having the other champions there doesn’t bother me as we go to beat whoever’s there,” he said. “But it’s great for the Championship with so many people doing it, seven champions on the grid, it’s certainly pretty exciting.”
Jordan, who competed in Rallycross before embarking on his touring car career, will drive one of the Olsbergs Ford Fiestas in the British round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship this season, which may yield more appearances during the season.
“I’m doing World Rallycross at Lydden Hill on 24th-25th May, which I’m looking forward to, which is my birthday, so hopefully we’ll have a good weekend,” said Jordan.
“I will get some testing on before then, it’ll be hard taking on the regular guys.
“What (Rallycross) has needed is someone like IMG to get involved for years. Last year I did the TV (commentary), and I’m doing some of the TV with them this year as well as a one-off race. At the moment it’s a one-off, I’d like to do a couple more. Rallycross is certainly on the up, it’s needed that extra push to raise its profile.”
