Ford confirms V8 Supercars withdrawal

Ford has confirmed their withdrawal from V8 Supercars after this season and will only be present in a limited cooperation with Ford Performance Racing next year before completely leaving the sport in 2016.

“Ford is transforming our entire business – from our product line-up to the consumer experience – with major investments that meant we had to make difficult decisions such as not renewing our V8 Supercars teams’ sponsorships after the 2015 season,” read a statement from Ford.

Speculation surrounding Ford’s withdrawal has been ongoing for months after the manufacturer announced the stop of local manufacturing of road cars in Australia.

Six Fords are expected to be on the grid for 2015, with Ford Performance Racing running four cars alongside the single-car entries of Dick Johnson Racing/Penske and Super Black Racing.

Ford has been a part of the development of the new FG-X Falcon model together with FPR which will make its debut in the 2015 V8 Supercars Championship.

“Ford is proud to launch the FG-X Falcon, including building on our performance heritage by racing the new model in V8 Supercars in 2015. We will provide technical support to teams racing Ford Falcons in 2015 but will not renew our sponsorships after the season. We are proud of the teams and our history in the series but have made this decision so we can move forward by focusing our attention on our great products and consumer experience,” continued the statement from Ford.
