Tom Ingram cautiously optimistic with opening session pace

Tom Ingram says he isn’t reading too much in to his fastest lap in FP1 but is pleased with his team’s work over the winter.

The Speedworks Motorsport driver took the fastest time in the first session of the 2015 British Touring Car season, which saw times tumble in the latter stages owing to the drying of the damp Brands Hatch circuit.

“It just goes to show that the boys have put a hell of a lot of work in over the winter and that it’s paid off,” Ingram told TouringCarTimes. “But it is only FP1, we’ve got to remember it’s a bit of a “joker session”. We’ll savour the moment while it’s there and hopefully we’ve started as we mean to go on.”

Ingram’s team spent the winter building a brand new Toyota Avensis for the 2015 season, leaving the Buckinghamshire driver with very little time to get to know his new car.

“This is only the second time we’ve run it in anger,” he continued. “It feels really really strong and it’s literally a brand new car over the winter. Three weeks ago it was a bare shell, so the boys have done a sterling job to get it together.

We’ve got a few things we’ve got planned for FP2 and then qualifying, but from a start point she looked really really strong.”
