Campos withdraw Jordi Oriola’s Opel Astra from Shanghai

Campos Racing have been forced to withdraw the #21 Opel Astra OPC scheduled to be driven this weekend by Jordi Oriola, leaving 15 cars on the grid and three manufacturers, comprising of Honda, Audi and SEAT for the TCR International Series’ second event.

The 18-year-old Spanish driver was only able to take part in practice during the last meeting in Sepang, with the Astra plagued by overheating issues in the Malaysian heat.

The teething troubles with the Astra OPC, developed for the VLN, have seen the team switch Igor Skuz to a SEAT León for this weekend while they try and resolve the issues with the Astra for the European leg of the season which starts next month in Valencia.

“Although it was short, I made the most of the opportunity in the TCR International Series,” said Oriola. “However, my championship this season is the SEAT Leon Eurocup. I do not deny that I would love to repeat this experience, since it is the competition that I will be in the future, but now I have to focus on the SEAT Leon Eurocup. I think this could be my year and I look forward for the first races.”
